I've long been jealous of Bruce Schneier: he's too damn smart. If I can't
out-think him, I ought as well emulate him. So, effective tomorrow, I'm
dying my beard black and pouring Nair on my head.
Just kidding. I really am interested in emulating something he's been
doing: his monthly point-counterpoint column for Information
Security. Here's the plan:
- A discussion partner and I will, in private discussion, find a topic
we disagree on. Global warming
- We will then select, again in private discussion, a single-sentence
interrogative that defines our disagreement. Is global warming
primarily the fault of mankind?
- We will each, separately and in private, write 300 to 1,000 words
answering the question in a rational manner. Evidence from a
recent study by the ABC group indicates global warming is not
primarily the fault of mankind. The study says...
- We will both publish our conclusion to the web roughly
simultaneously and hyperlink the two conclusions together.
- If it works out, we will repeat all the steps again at an agreed
upon interval.
I'm open to discussing almost any topic. If your interested in this
opportunity for friendly debate, please
contact me. If more than two
people contact me, I may (with participants' permission) help organise
participants into pairs that don't include me.
